What Axion changes, and why

Every tweak is on this page, with what it does and what it costs you. The app says the same thing before it changes anything, and Preview shows which ones would change your PC.

Everything in the app

The tweaks are only one part of Axion. Here is the rest, and what each plan gets. Free and Premium, side by side

Live Boost Free to preview

Pick a game and a mode. While it runs Axion gives it the machine, then puts everything back when it closes.

How it works

Why your FPS is low In Free

Finds what no setting can fix: memory below its rated speed, a monitor stuck at 60 Hz, a narrow PCIe link, heat, an old driver. Read only.

How it works

Watchdog More on Premium

Windows Update and driver installs put settings back. Axion notices, and on Premium re-applies exactly those.

Debloat In Free

Complete debloat checks your PC and cleans it in one go. Or go tab by tab: running programs, apps, startup, services, tasks and Windows apps.

Toolbox In Free

Connection, bufferbloat and DNS tests, a per-adapter tuner and the common Windows repairs. Every number measured while you watch.

Presets and profiles In Free

Safe, Competitive, Laptop and Max to start from, and a profile file that carries your choices and nothing about your PC.

Uninstaller More on Premium

Uninstall an app and clean up the folders, registry keys and tasks it leaves behind.

Undo everything In Free

Every change goes back from Axion's own backup of that exact value. Never behind the paywall.

Performance

33 tweaks

How Windows schedules your game, powers your CPU and GPU, and gets frames to the screen.

  • High performance power planOff until you turn it onSwitches to the strongest power plan Windows has, so the CPU stops dropping into low power states between frames.
  • Hardware GPU scheduling (HAGS)Turns on hardware GPU scheduling, so the graphics card manages its own memory instead of the CPU.
  • Xbox Game DVRTurns off Xbox Game DVR, the background capture hook that loads with every game.
  • Multi-plane overlay (MPO)Turns off multi-plane overlay, a known cause of flicker and micro-stutter on some NVIDIA and Windows 11 setups.
  • Game scheduling priority (MMCSS)Off until you turn it onTells the Windows multimedia scheduler to put game threads first.
  • Game process priorityRuns your games at a higher CPU and disk priority and keeps Windows from power-throttling them.
  • Fullscreen optimizations offTurns off fullscreen optimizations for your games, so they run in true fullscreen with one layer less.
  • Memory managerOff until you turn it onKeeps the Windows kernel in RAM and gives apps priority over file cache. Only on PCs with 8 GB or more.
  • Paging fileGives the paging file a fixed floor, so Windows stops resizing it in the middle of a game.

  • Global timer resolutionLets a game's high-precision timer request apply system-wide again, like before Windows 11.
  • Fast startup offOff until you turn it onTurns off Fast Startup, so every boot starts clean instead of restoring a saved session.

  • Remove the frame limit in every game foundRemoves the frame limit, V-Sync and dynamic resolution in every supported game on this PC.
  • Shader cache on and uncappedMakes sure the shader cache is on and unlimited, so shaders aren't rebuilt at every launch.
  • Cap frames at the screen's refresh rateOff until you turn it onCaps every supported game at your screen's refresh rate instead of removing the limit.
  • True exclusive fullscreenOff until you turn it onMakes sure Windows honours a game's request for exclusive fullscreen.

Latency (advanced)

22 tweaks

Deeper latency and power tuning for PCs that are mainly for gaming. This group is off until you turn it on, and the app explains each tweak first.

Latency (advanced) trades heat and power for speed. It is off until you turn it on, and the app says what each tweak costs before it runs. These tweaks keep the CPU, the graphics card and your devices out of their power saving states, so they answer immediately instead of waking up first.

Expect more heat, more fan noise and a shorter battery on a laptop. Revert all in the app puts every one of them back.

Security trade-offs

3 tweaks

The few tweaks that turn a Windows protection off, or tell Defender to leave a folder alone. They are off until you turn them on, each one says what it costs, and Undo everything puts them back.

Security trade-offs turn a Windows protection off. The group is off until you turn it on, and the app says what each tweak costs before it runs:

  • Memory Integrity off. Blocked on a PC with Valorant or League installed, because Riot's anti-cheat needs it on.
  • Spectre and Meltdown mitigations off. Only offered on CPUs from before the fixes were built into the chip, where they cost real speed.

Defender, SmartScreen and Safe Browsing always stay on. Recovery in the app puts everything back, and so does the restore point made before the boost.

  • Defender exclusions for game foldersOff until you turn it onStops Defender rescanning your game folders while a game loads. Only those folders, never the whole PC.
  • Memory Integrity (VBS/HVCI) offOnly when picked on its ownTurns off Memory Integrity to win back CPU time. Off by default because it removes a security protection.
  • Spectre and Meltdown mitigations off (older CPUs only)Asks before it runsTurns off the Spectre and Meltdown mitigations, only on older CPUs where they cost real speed. Removes real protection.
